1 Year Anniversary Trip
My husband and I celebrated our 1 YEAR Anniversary on July 5th – SO CRAZY that it’s already been 1 year since we got married! This year FLEW BY. We had a wedding on our actual anniversary, so we celebrated the day before by watching our wedding videos, putting on our wedding attire (that may have been just a little tighter on both of us than it was a year ago), cut into our wedding cake, and did a cheesy photo shoot. We also took a little trip to California for a few days to get away, relax, and reflect over this past year of being married, as well as talk about goals/hopes/dreams for this next year. Here are some highlights from our wonderful time away in California!
Our first day we went to a fun brunch place, walked around the Santa Monica Pier (and rode the ferris wheel), drove around Rodeo Drive, Beverly Hills, Walk of Fame, and the famous Hollywood sign. We also went to dinner that night with Mike’s friend and his wife at a fun restaurant called Laurel Hardware (strange name for a restaurant, I know…but it had a fun atmosphere and great food).
One of my favorite actresses – Sandra Bullock!
Who knew Billy Graham had a star??!
Thanks to my husband’s awesome research skills, we found a dog park that had pretty spectacular view of the Hollywood sign!
Our second day we ventured out to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum in the morning. I’m not a huge history buff, so I was mostly going because Mike wanted to, but it ended up being WAY cooler than I was thinking! It’s a huge place! And of course, Mike wore his Reagan shirt 🙂

We got to tour Air Force One too! And had our “cheesy election picture” taken in front of it.
We then drove down to San Diego and went right to the Safari Park. My favorite was watching the cheetah run, as well as taking the African tram all around the back side of the park.
The next day we hit up SeaWorld & the San Diego Zoo all in the same day. SeaWorld was AMAZING! I have always loved dolphins, so watching them do flips and different tricks was pretty cool. We went to 4 different shows throughout the few hours that we were there, and we definitely could have gone to many more.
By the time we got to the Zoo, we were pretty tired from being out in the hot sun at SeaWorld for about 5 hours, and we had already seen a lot of animals, so we didn’t stay there that long, but it was still cool!
That night we went to a cool restaurant in San Diego called South Beach Bar & Grill. We had heard about it from a few different people, who said their fish tacos were amazing…and they were right! It’s also right by the water and they have an outdoor patio area, so the view was great!
By the time Saturday came, we wanted to just relax since we had been non-stop tourists for 3 days in a row. So we drove up North and went to Corona Del Mar beach for a few hours. It was great to just relax on the beach and people watch! It was one of the most packed beaches I have ever been to. It seems like every square inch was occupied by either people, or towels, chairs, grills, food, etc. This picture below was taken before it got crazy busy.
I promise we are not naked! 😉
That night we had some amazing pizza at a place in Newport Beach called Pizza Nova. Mike had arranged a boat cruise on the same boat that we got engaged on a year and a half ago! It was so fun to reminisce about that special night, and enjoy watching dolphins, whales, and the beautiful sunset on the ocean. The company is called Classic Yacht Excursions and you can check them out HERE. Some of our engagement photos are still on their website! If you live in California or ever visit the Newport Beach area, you MUST take a cruise with them!
If you look close, you can see lots of birds and dolphins 🙂

On our last day we hung out by the pool at our hotel, then found a sweet lunch spot, called Sandy’s, in Huntington Beach before heading to the airport to fly home.
The 5 days we were in California definitely went by quickly! But it was such a fun time seeing some great things and relaxing a little bit. Both my husband and I love traveling, but it’s also nice coming home 🙂
Until our next adventure…
