Petersons in Mexico

Over Labor Day, my husband and I took a vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. We booked our trip through Costco Travel. Who knew that Costco had a travel program??!! We found a better deal than any other travel website. We stayed at the Dreams Villamagna Resort in Nuevo Vallarta, which is just about 15 miles from the airport in Puerto Vallarta. My husband and I had never done all-inclusive, so we decided to try that out this time, and it was great! It was wonderful going to a restaurant and not having to worry about the price of anything.

We were in Mexico for a week and a day. Most of our time was spent relaxing at the pool. Our views everyday were STUNNING. It was awesome sitting at the pool & being able to see BOTH the ocean AND the mountains. There were chairs on the beach that we could have sat in, but we wanted to stay by the pool since it was more convenient to just take a dip in whenever we wanted to. (It was pretty hot and super humid, so we sat in the pool a lot!)

Here is the view from our room! We had our own balcony that had patio furniture, as well as our own personal hot tub!

As I already said, we spent lots of time by the pool, as well as taking walks along the beach.

Another nice thing about this all-inclusive resort, is that you can get room service 24/7! I think we did 4 times. Look how cute they set things up!

On our first full day there, we sat through one of those typical time share presentations, which lasted almost 3 hours (was supposed to only last 90 minutes), and believe me…I kept checking my watch and looking out the window at the pool, hoping the guy would get the hint. However, we did get a free romantic dinner on the beach, as well as $30 to use towards excursions.

Here is our dinner on the beach. We scheduled it around sunset, so there were spectacular views! We had a wonderful 4-course meal & our very own personal waiter, who was very sweet!

We spent the first few days just relaxing. Then we ended up booking 3 excursions (since it was buy 2, get 1 free!). The first one we did was called “Rhythms of the Night” (or “Ritmos de la Noche”). We took 2 large boats to an area about an hour away. It was all lit up by candles & torches, so it looked beautiful as we pulled up on the boat! We had met another couple from our resort that was going to it as well, so we hung out with them all night, which was fun! They were from D.C., and were on their honeymoon. We watched a show, which was similar to “Cirque du Soleil” (so I’m told). There was music, fire, acrobats, awesome costumes, and a story that was being told throughout. We had a dinner buffet after that, then headed back on the boat. It was a fun night!

We weren’t allowed to take photos during the show, but my husband snapped this one before the show started.

Another excursion we did was a sea safari. It was a full day of boat rides, visiting a remote fishing village, horseback riding, swimming in a waterfall, snorkeling, and hanging out on a beach. It was definitely an adventure. It ended up storming as we were on the beach having a lunch buffet. Since the storm wasn’t passing, the captains decided we needed to head back. WHILE IT WAS STILL STORMING. If only we had pictures of us during that time. I probably had a horrified look on my face (as I was scared out of my mind). Plus, we were wearing bright yellow ponchos, but were already drenched, so I’m sure it would have made for some great photos. It was pretty scary at the time, being on an inflatable speed boat in the middle of the ocean during a nasty storm, but God kept us all safe, and now it’s (somewhat) funny to talk about.

This picture below is right before the storm came (as you can see the dark clouds above us).

That same night, once we got back safe & sound to our resort, we had a sushi dinner with spectacular views. The resort has a sushi bar on the 9th floor, and it overlooked both the ocean and the mountains on the other side.

Our last excursion (and my favorite) was swimming with dolphins. It’s been on my bucket list for a long time, and I finally got to do it! We weren’t allowed to take our own photos, so we ended up purchasing a package that came with a CD of over 50 photos, 5 printed photos, and a video, and they turned out great!

While we were waiting, we got to meet the cutest little monkey!

And we saw the biggest iguanas I have ever seen…

Now on to the dolphins..

Dolphins are by-far my favorite animal. They are just so intriguing, and the more I learn about them, the more I love them! I posted the video of our time with the dolphins on my Facebook page, so if we are friends on Facebook, check out the video on my page if you haven’t yet!

Our last night in Mexico, we ventured into town. Mike had heard of a good restaurant from a guy he knows who lives in Puerto Vallarta, so we decided to try it out. I am so glad we did because it had AMAZING food! The restaurant is called Café des Artistes. We told them we were celebrating our 1-year anniversary (yes, it was back in July, but why can’t we celebrate all year long!), so they made sure our night was extra special, and it definitely was. I had the best steak I have ever eaten, best steak sauce I have ever eaten with a steak, and the best Crème Brulee I have ever eaten. If you’re ever in Puerto Vallarta, I HIGHLY recommend going to this restaurant!

Puerto Vallarta has a walkway along the ocean, and since we were there on a Saturday night, it was filled with food vendors with local authentic Mexican food, street musicians, various sculptures, and lots of people walking around.

[Fun Fact: If you watched Bachelor in Paradise this season, you might recognize the sculpture below from Dan & Amber’s date. Bachelor in Paradise was filmed at a resort that was probably about 10-15 minutes from our resort!]

Overall, it was a great time in Mexico with my husband! It was so nice to get away from the busyness of life, and get some relaxation time, as well as some adventure time. Traveling is something that both my husband and I love to do, and I think it’s so important, as a married couple, to get away & get refreshed!
